La câteva minute de centrul Bucureştiului, la marginea unui cartier aglomerat, o livadă de cireşi este decimată cu acte în regulă pentru a face loc unui spaţiu comercial. Mulţi dintre pomi erau în rod. În 2 zile livada a fost pusă la pământ. Spaţiul trebuia eliberat repede şi singura destinaţie prevăzută de făptaşi era groapa de gunoi.Sub presiunea volelor, sub impresia puternică a truchiurilor devastate am început să imaginăm soarta post mortem a cireşilor, între obiect de artă şi metaforă, o expoziţie manifest, pe care o consideram necesară, pentru cei 412 cireşi, pentru oamenii care s-ar fi putut bucura de ei şi mai ales pentru milioanele de pomi tăiaţi în România în ultima sută de ani şi pentru oamenii care, fără să realizeze, suferă de pe urma dispariţiei lor.Am reuşit să obţinem cele 412 trunchiuri, pe care le-am adus la dimensiune umană eliberându-le de coroană. Imaginea începuse să alunece dinspre haos înspre un discurs coerent, cu 412 variante ale unui prototip încărcat de dramatism. (foto)

In a crowded residential district five minutes away from the centre of Bucharest, a cherry orchard is cut down to make space for a supermarket with all necessary approvals issued in due time. Most of the trees are bearing fruits. It took two days to cut down the entire orchard. The area ought to be rapidly emptied and the felled trees are to be taken to a rubbish dump.Strongly impressed by the devastated trunks, we tried to imagine what sort of post-mortem fate awaits them. In between of being used for artworks and a mere metaphor, we felt that an exhibition conceived as a manifesto is needed, a manifesto to commemorate the 412 cherry trees of the destroyed orchard, but also the millions of trees cut down during the last hundred years in Romania; and furthermore a manifesto addressed to people who, without even knowing it, are suffering because the trees are no more there.We secured somehow the 412 trunks. We removed their crown and the trees neared human proportions. The whole image started shifting away from a chaotic one to become a coherent discourse, spelled out in 412 alternative ways for the same prototype infused with drama. (photos)
